You may not be able to pronouce it, but a Kalimotxo only has 2 ingredients. That’s T-W-O. As in, you can make this drink too.
The name is just so darn odd, you wouldn’t recognize it. It’s called a Xalimoto, pronounced “kal-ee-moch-o.”
(Cheap-Ass, Lazy Girl “Sangria” is really a much better name.)
Cheap-Ass Sangria
Supposedly invented as a poor man’s alternative to sangria, this red wine cocktail comes from the Basque region of Spain.
So you can just tell everyone this is a “Basque style Sangria” and sound fancy. Even though the TWO ingredients are….
drum roll…..
Red Wine and Coke
Haha! It’s like that odd couple you know. Two peeps you think would never get together, and all of sudden they mate and turn out to be a match made in heaven.
Fortunately, this match of red wine and coke can be made in your very own home.
No Need to Measure
You don’t really need to measure if you don’t want to. Just pour in some red wine and some coke.
Should be equal parts, but who is counting? (And I’m not talking about the number of drinks your drinking.)
Serve in a 2L Coke bottle
To make this a truly no dish recipe, simply use a 2L bottle of Coke, drink half of it, pour in the bottle of red wine, and voila! eInstant cock-tale to take to the beach party.
Since we don’t like doing dishes, pour this into your finest plastic cups.
Serve in a Pineapple
In the picture, a pineapple cup is used by taking the pineapple out with this pineapple slicer tool.
Professional Tips
- This tastes better if your Coke or Pepsi has not gone flat. But if you really need to use up your leftover coke, by all means go for it.
- Serving this in a hollowed out pineapple or watermelon, add some traditional fruit infused flavor.
- Serve chilled with ice if you prefer. Or just start with cold coke and red wine.
